Castlemilk Youth Complex is Scotland's foremost independent youth work and arts organisation. It operates informal learning youth-work/youth-arts programmes with excluded young people from the South East of Glasgow. The charity is managed by the young people using its state of the art facilities, including, a fully equipped 80-seat theatre, recording studio, Internet cafe, dance studio, therapy facilities and visual arts media.
Headline Aim - "Creating a better future by inspiring young people to recognise, raise and achieve their aspirations."
To achieve our headline aim we must realize the following key objectives
• Build young people's self esteem and confidence.
• Develop young people’s ability to manage personal and social relationships.
• Create learning opportunities for young people to allow them to develop new skills.
• Encourage positive group atmospheres.
• Build the capacity of young people to consider risk, make reasoned decisions and take control.
• Help young people to develop a 'world view' which widens horizons, raises aspirations and invites social commitment.
The project is targeted at young people in Castlemilk aged 12-25. Castlemilk has a large high school age population and an above average population aged 15 and under, poverty is the norm for these young people as Castlemilk suffers considerable multiple deprivations
We would like to compare and contrast our communities and how can we improve them. Let’s work and learn together and share our knowledge as youth workers.
