Casal de Joves de Sant Just Desvern

The Casal de Joves is responsible for listening to the interests and needs that the youngsters from Sant Just Desvern have. It’s a place where everybody is welcome and where the voices and wills of the youngsters are the focus. Through activities, debates, training, expositions, local events and sports competitions, The Casal de Joves introduces youngsters to the global politics of the municipality and supports them in the process to their emancipation and personal autonomy. Everything is done with respect for individual space, proximity and optimism.
The Casal de Joves works to strengthen collective actions and associations that encourage art activities, free expressions, sport and health consciousness, music and cinema activities… It also works to give to the citizens the resources and tools that they need for work in this field. As well as services offered by the Casal de Joves, the youngsters can obtain information about European mobilization. This service with a European dimension has been offered since September 2012 and has motivated the youngsters of the Casal to become interested in European programmes and the culture of neighbouring countries. The Casal de Joves information service explains the European mobility programmes for individuals (EVS, Leonardo, Erasmus…) and for groups with the
objective of becoming educated about multicultural character of our continent, so as to share and live experiences with youngsters from other countries and of similar interests.

This main function is based in the following objectives:
- To support youth associations: working together with organisations of Sant Just Desvern and supporting their suggestions.
To find communication dimensions that fit the youngsters’ reality: to give more importance to new technologies and renovate the web page.
- Strengthen the participatory areas: support the Youth board and the celebration of the first youth council where representatives of youth organisations and the delegates of the secondary school of Sant Just will work together for the design of a special youth activity.
- To assist youngsters in their educational process: giving support for successful studies and personal development. Besides giving information and guidance to the students.
- To support labour integration of young adults : The Casal de Joves disseminate job offers from Barcelona and abroad through its blog and the youth information service.
- To encourage the youth citizens from Sant Just Desvern who have special curiosity for art, to develop their capacities, and to promote their art through expositions in public facilities.
- To work towards designing a better leisure plan with more activities’ assortment and focus also for different target groups.
- Highlight cinema culture through the Cineclub Utopia organisation (an organisation created by youngsters for all the citizens)
- Promote responsible attitudes, reflect on prejudices and dangerous situations for youngsters and organize activities to prevent them.

With its functions, the Casal de Joves have learned that the non formal education brings a lot of knowledge and selfconfidence to youngsters.
