BORN TO BE UNIQUE

The team “Born to Be Unique” was formed in 2010 by some volunteers, sincerely intending to make people with mental disability develop social skills, be more socially integrated. Moreover and above, creating an awareness would be the most significant service to be done.
To reach these goals, we have already organized some activities such as; dining out in restaurants, patisseries and cafes, shopping in markets and at bazaars, visiting the traffic education center and nursing homes, planting trees, going to picnic and having fun at the playground. We have exhibited their handmade art crafts on stands. We have made up an amateur theatre group, whose members are mentally disabled, and gone on a tour to Tokat and its towns. The group has performed the play “Ebruli” about the problems of the people with mental disability.
Our team has prepared and handed out an informative free hand book about the people with mental disease , their characteristics ,legal issues and educational facilities.

To bring both the society and the people with mental disease together, we have organized a series of social activities such as dining out with local officials, birthday celebration with local political leaders, watching movies with civil servants, playing football with footballers, flying kites with high school students, planting trees with police officers, a visit to Tokat with sanitarians, shopping with lawyers, public’s march, wall painting with art teachers, picnic with housewives, party with volunteers and a camp.
To announce these activities and increase public participation, we have handed out leaflets, giveaways (pens , key rings etc.) and hung banners.
