Babele ODV is an association involved in the inclusion of migrant families through activities of cultural mediation, family desk and assistance of children and young people attending school or NEET.
The association leads its activities in Pavia, a town in Lombardy, northern Italy, 35 kilometres south of Milan on the river Ticino. It has a population of about 72,000 inhabitants. The town is well known because of its historical University and prestigious hospital but in the suburbs there are still areas suffering of social and economical problems. The association works in two public youth centers with youngsters from 11 to 21 and one community center.
The association operates under an agreement with the Municipality of Pavia and the Local Social Plan and collaborates with various schools. In particular, we focus on supporting minors in their school integration and families, both Italian and foreign, in familiarizing themselves with the territory and the network of services to support full sociocultural integration, while cultural mediation is carried out in public schools.
The association carries on different projects dealing with urban cohesion in the peripheries of the town involving also the local Sinti community.
Babele ODV also organizes Human Libraries in local peripheries to fight prejudices and stereotypes.
