Young women active in their communities – how youth work can support them in civic life? inspiration, models and practices in Euromediterranean cooperation

Seminar

15-19 May 2023 | Tunisia, Tunisia

Seminar that will be held in Tunisia from 15 May till 19 May 2023. The seminar provides the possibility to explore realities and good practices related to engagement of women in Tunisia and supports sharing and transferability of experiences and tools.

The concept of the seminar was born as a follow up of the seminar “Engagement of women in politics and entrepreneurship” held in Beirut under TCA 2019 by the Italian National Agency in cooperation with SALTO EuroMed Resource Centre, UK National Agency and GIZ LEAD programme. After having explored the different Countries realities of women in politics and entrepreneurship and having experienced how important is the participatory dimension for both fields, the idea is to put in the centre the participation as one of the main starting points for a full involvement of the women in the society and for a real gender equality.

We can list many factors that could allow higher participation of women in their communities:

  • Social and cultural recognition of women role in society
  • Family Law: the family law at national system, rights, financial support, etc.
  • Health/Welfare: the national system that allows women to balance their presence at work/active in society and support their family and wellbeing of the family.
  • Employment/Occupability: as social recognition of the working condition, status in the society, self-maintenance, sustainability.

These elements are the K-factors for enabling a better Gender Sensitive Working Environment. The role of youth work is one of the most important factors for creating the conditions for a social change from the bottom up approach.

The seminar will explore the following aspects:

  • What is gender and what does it mean to create a Gender Sensitive Working Environment?: What do we mean and what could be the role of youth work?
  • Gender and Gender Sensitive Youth Work: the role of youth work in supporting young women in participation and engagement in civic life;
  • Gender and Social and cultural recognition (focus always on youth dimension)
  • Gender and Family Law/Welfare (focus always on youth dimension)
  • Gender and Equal opportunities in the career path (focus always on youth dimension)
