"Tales We Tell, Bonds We Build - Storytelling in Youth Work"

Training Course

17-26 January 2025 | Aparan, Armenia

The primary goal of this course is to empower educational professionals with a robust toolkit of creative writing, storytelling and artistic expression to bridge gaps, promote cultural understanding, cultivate a sense of unity and inclusion.

In today's complex world, youth alienation is an issue that often leads to misunderstandings, stereotyping and conflicts within communities, especially in multicultural environments. It manifests in various forms, such as cultural divides, social stereotypes and miscommunication. These divisions can escalate into conflicts, hindering the growth of inclusive societies and impeding the potential for collaborative progress. The lack of a shared narrative and understanding exacerbates these issues, leaving many young people feeling isolated and unheard.

“Tales We Tell, Bonds We Build” emerges as a powerful antidote to this challenge, using creative writing and storytelling as tools to bridge gaps, promote cultural understanding, and cultivate a sense of unity and inclusion among diverse youth. We want to address youth alienation by providing a platform where diverse voices can come together through the universal language of storytelling and poetry.

By encouraging participants to express their unique perspectives, experiences, and emotions, the project acts as a medium for dialogue, breaking down barriers and fostering empathy. The specific aim of this training course is to bring together youth workers from Programme and EECA Partner countries to engage in discussions, exploration, and the development of methods for self-exploration, non-violent communication and inclusion, which they can then implement with their respective target groups. Empowering young people is crucial, and this empowerment often comes through skilled facilitation and guidance from youth workers.

The training course aims to bring together 22 youth workers from 8 countries who possess experience in working with young people with difficulties in communication and self-expression. Through collaborative efforts, the working team will create an environment conducive to learning, where participants can acquire essential tools of non-formal education such as storytelling and poetry writing to learn expressing their voices in a creative way.
