Solidarity Circus

Training Course

12-19 May 2025 | Riga, LV, Latvia

A Training-course on Circus Pedagogy and Youth-work emphasizes the practical application of performing skills in boosting youth engagement, promoting active citizenship, and addressing the challenges faced by young individuals in an ever-evolving world.

This training is designed specifically for Youth Workers who wish to enhance their ability to connect with, inspire, and support young people. The course emphasizes the practical application of performance skills in fostering youth engagement, promoting active citizenship, and addressing the challenges faced by young individuals in an ever-evolving world.

By mastering the art of circus, participants will learn to amplify their impact in critical areas of youth work, including engagement, conflict resolution, empowerment, and community-building. The training explores how circus can facilitate deeper solidarity, encourage meaningful participation, and strengthen youth voices in decision-making processes.

Why Art and Circus Matter in Youth Work

Erasmus+ style youth work prioritizes inclusivity, empowerment, and active engagement. Circus skills are vital for Youth Workers to:

Inspire action: Circus helps motivate young people to take part in Solidarity opportunities like volunteering, Erasmus+ projects, and local initiatives.

Enhance collaboration: Circus fosters stronger partnerships with stakeholders, including schools, local organizations, and policymakers, ensuring better resources and opportunities for young people.

Participants should expect to dive into an adventure where they'll have the chance to learn about integrating circus arts into youth education.

The circus method harnesses the discipline, creativity, and physicality of circus activities to foster self-confidence, team collaboration, and the development of various motor and cognitive skills.

Participants will not only learn about circus methods, but will also get opportunity to try out some of them including juggling balls and some tricks with flower sticks.

The project’s target group is anyone currently involved in working with young people (in any format) or who expresses serious commitment to get involved in the future; from the marked countries.

Who Should Attend?

We expect Youth Workers and Youth Trainers with big experience in Circus to share your skills and best practices, as well as  Youth Workers and Youth Trainers with no experience at all.

During this TC you are expected to create (or update) your personal short circus performance with a small groups of other participants. You also will have a great opportunity to take part in one of the oldest Circus festivals in Europe - the "Count of May" festival in Riga, Latvia, and even perform your short Circus Show at this festival.

Our approach is based on the belief that the best learning methods combine formal as well as non-formal and informal methods of education. We implement this belief in our programs! Our program combines the formal methods of education – providing the actual knowledge to students (participants of the courses) by the tutor; explaining the material and giving examples. At the same time, we try to involve the methods of non-formal and informal education. We use the games and exercises that allow students in a non-formal way to have a better understanding of the topic, to see the ways of practical use of the knowledge. We try to involve participants in the learning process. We try to activate their thinking about their own experiences which could be relevant to the topic. We believe learning through understanding the relevance of the material to own experience is the most effective.

Participants of the projects usually have great experiences and have a lot to learn from each other. Because of that reason during the projects we create the space for learning each other. We encourage participants to get to know each other more, to spend free time with each other sharing experiences. As the result of our projects we often had new professional partnerships among the participants. We try to make sure that our projects are not just the place to learn about the topic but also an excellent networking opportunity!

Another important fundamental of our approach is an emphasis on practical use. Among the tutors of our projects, you will more often see professionals with practical experience than university professors. The education that we provide is more practical than theoretical. We offer the trainings on new knowledge and skills which are not just interesting to learn but can be successfully applied in real life.
