Social Theatre and Social Media

Training Course

2-10 August 2024 | Bidart, France

The training course for youth workers will explore the use of theatre and digital media.

The training course aims to equip youth workers with tools to enhance self-awareness, self-empowerment, and self-expression to improve life and professional opportunities for those at risk of social exclusion, using theatre as a method for cultural expression and non-formal education. Additionally, it seeks to leverage digital media to increase the visibility of social practices and support the integration and empowerment of youth and NEET (Not in Education, Employment, or Training) in society.

Young people face many challenges including unemployment, a lack of housing, dependency, low income, mental health issues, isolation, low trust, a lack of interest and participation. For them, there is a great deal of uncertainty and unstable risk factors.

The primary objective of the training course is to explore different ways to express, reflect upon, and understand such difficulties, as well as finding ways to influence the factors that lead to young people's social exclusion.

The training course will allow participants to learn at their own pace and find their social space and voice in order to conceptualise, share their ideas and be heard by their peers. This will result in an in-depth individual and group understandings of the issues at stake. These understandings will be reached using a combination of theatrical and nonformal education approaches.

The project aim to foster social inclusion by raising awareness and initiating social change through the use of theatre as a means of expressing and promoting change, and the use of digital social media as a means of more effectively disseminating and spreading socially significant information.

The objective of the project to pair theatre and digital media is to enable youth workers from different European countries to use social theatre methodologies and digital media competences to support youth work development, social inclusion, visibility and identity.

The project team is an international, multidisciplinary team, who is really motivated to work on this project! The trainers’ team is composed of Jose, a social theatre performer and trainer and Jose Pedro a multimedia teacher.
