Sharing Best Practices from Nuotta Coaching Method- Empowering NEETs Through Experiential Learning

Seminar

26-29 March 2025 | Youth Centre Piispala, Finland

The project introduces Finnish Nuotta Coaching to people working in youth work to develop their competences in using the method within the target group of NEETs. Join the seminar if you want to implement a similar approach in your own country.

What is Nuotta-Coaching?

Nuotta coaching has been organized at eight national youth centres since 2010.  Finnish Youth Centres are supervised and subsidised by the Ministry of Education and Culture. The development of youth work in the Youth Centre Network is carried out by following the current Youth Act and The National Youth Work and Youth Policy Programme. Nuotta-coaching focuses on empowering NEETs through social reinforcement, life management, and healthy lifestyle practices. It leverages outdoor activities and experiential learning to enhance social skills and self-confidence.

About seminar programme

At seminar we will present a comprehensive introduction to Nuotta coaching methods, showcasing the transformative impact of nature-based and activity-driven programs. Here is more about of the Youth Centre Piispala Nuotta coaching: https://piispala.fi/en/children-and-youth/nuotta-coaching/

The seminar program is a combination of interactive workshops, outdoor and indoor activities, and collaborative discussions to equip participants with tools and practices to support NEETs effectively. Participants will get to know how operating in natural environment can be useful for youth welfare and self-knowledge.

Our project will include Adventure and outdoor education, which is a holistic learning approach, and which can be used for physical, mental and social emotional aspects. (Look more here: https://www.snk.fi/en/adventure-education/) We use Thematic Sessions and Reflective Techniques as tools. Outdoor Adventures demonstrates how nature-based experiences can boost youth engagement and well-being; thematic Sessions can provide insights into addressing the unique challenges faced by NEET youth and practical reflective techniques shared will enable participants to integrate these approaches into their youth work practices.

You can experience in practice the activities such as Green Care, Drama, Environmental sensitivity exercises, Environmental arts and crafts, Graphics (Gelli printing, dry point needle graphics), Archery & Eco shooting, Descending and Climbing etc. In addition, we cover topics on supporting motivation and mental health of young people.

“It’s a pleasure to see when young people push their limits and encourage each other during performances. Such prolonged and intense togetherness in a different environment than usual helps to see different sides of the youth and has enabled deeper conversations with many.”
