Training Course
2-8 June 2024 | Biar , Spain
SDGames is a 6-day-long training course designed for active practitioners working with youth to take part in value-driven, youth-centric activities for sustainable actions that allow them to question their views and practices to be able to act as potential agents with hands-on experiences and a better understanding of sustainable concepts in youth work. Together we will focus on environment-specific UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in the realms of the participants and use the Game Development Process (GPD) as an inclusive tool to support quality improvements in youth work and to foster active citizenship initiatives in a broader context.
We believe that youth work can be action-oriented and project-based and can support values and activities that formal education does not have the capacity, therefore we invite 24 active practitioners (youth workers, educators, volunteers, or youth leaders) from 6 European countries (Bulgaria, Hungary, Italy, Spain, Poland, Portugal) to co-create as the following:
-Day 1-3 Immersion to the problem - including forming, storming, and norming while exploring SDGs, better understanding challenges, and the basics of gamification.
- Day 4-6 Actual game development - including performing practical solutions built around an SDG in collaborative creativity and hands-on practice before the training concludes in drafting specific follow-up activities.
The mix of methods will be based on the principles of non-formal education, experiential learning, and reflective practices arranged to reflect the logical flow of the GreenComp to allow participants to:
-> learn the ins and outs of games that are designed with purposes in mind.
-> connect with serious games by the use of GDP methodology.
-> understand how to adapt it to their target group and replicate the methods in their local realities.
-> get familiar with the system of SDGs and how such or similar high-level objectives could be more engagingly addressed in their everyday work, especially via youth-led and youth-own activities.
-> make their tools more effective by introducing the Green Competency Framework.
Above all, the flow of the training will strengthen not only the competencies but also the knowledge of what it takes to maintain activities and mindsets that are sustainability-oriented.
We hope to meet you and get playful together soon!
