Rainbow Mapping

Training Course

2-10 May 2022 | Zlata Idka, Slovak Republic

Using cartography, illustration, storytelling, creative writing and different concepts of subjective mapping as methods of working with youth at risk, specifically queer youth

Rainbow mapping is a seven day training course which aims to offer creative mapping techniques to youth workers and educators working with youngsters, specifically those whose work is focused on empowering queer youth. The training will provide participants with the knowledge and practical usage of subjective mapping tools, cartography and other non-formal creative methods that can help empower individuals and contribute to social inclusion of marginalised youth and youth at risk.

What are we going to do:

- explore the concepts of using maps and mapping as tools for improving the quality of youth work and specifically queer youth work

- through mapping workshops of different kind, investigate the role of space in the construction and reproduction of personal and group identities

- learn and experience the potential that maps and (subjective) mapping have in building and preserving community and their identities

- different illustration techniques and mapping exercises focusing on personal development

- learn new methods of observing the entanglement of public and private spaces

- set up the exhibition of subjective atlas that recollects created maps during the training
