LIST: Learning in short-term group projects

Training Course

24-28 April 2023 | Porto Heli, Greece

We invite youth workers and youth leaders to learn more on how to support learning within short-term group activities involving young people (such as youth exchanges or volunteering teams).

Short-term group projects, such as Youth Exchanges and Volunteering Team projects, are one of the most common activity formats within the EU youth programmes. These formats are useful in developing young people’s ownership of their own learning processes and their development, especially when their reflection on their learning and self-assessment is facilitated throughout their participation.

Youthpass is a tool of the EU youth programmes developed to support the learning processes of young people and other learners. Although it is widely used in the programmes, its quality use - as a process - in short-term group projects can be improved. Youth workers often indicate a need to learn about methods to implement reflection in their activities. And this training course seeks to answer this need.

Aims and objectives of the TC:

The training course aims to strengthen reflection and the learning dimension in short-term group mobilities involving young people as participants, in particular through the use of Youthpass.

In this sense, it has the specific objectives to:

  • Discuss and understand reflection and how to support learning (and documenting learning outcomes) in these project formats;
  • Explore how to create a learning environment for a diverse target group in these project settings;
  • Reflect on the competences useful for youth workers, especially in facilitating individual and group learning and in designing educational programmes.

Target group

The target group of the training are youth workers, youth leaders, project organisers and mentors who work with young people in short-term group projects (such as youth exchanges and projects involving volunteering teams). They should have curiosity towards supporting the learning processes of young people.

Programme

Prior to the in-person meeting in Greece: Confirmed participants will receive some reading material to prepare for the training course.

During the training course: Making use of participatory group processes, you will be invited to discuss and explore

  • your youth work reality and practice (including your success stories and challenges)
  • yourself as a learner
  • young people as learners
  • tools and methods to facilitate learning
  • your role and competences to facilitate the learning processes of others

The programme will start with a dinner on 24.04.23.

25.-27.04. are full working days.

28.04. is the departure date.

Venue:
