Green Board Games – Gamifying Sustainability in Youth Work is an international training course designed for youth workers, educators, and facilitators involved in non-formal education who want to explore innovative ways to engage young people in sustainability topics.
About the Training
This 7-day training, taking place in Novaci, Romania (28 April - 4 May 2025), offers participants the opportunity to learn how to use board games as educational tools to make learning about environmental challenges interactive, engaging, and impactful. Participants will go through a structured process of game design, testing, and adaptation, ensuring that the created games are effective tools in youth work.
Objectives
Develop youth workers’ competencies in using educational board games for environmental education.
Raise awareness among young people about climate change, ecological responsibility, and sustainable practices.
Foster collaboration and good practice exchange between youth workers from different countries.
Create and test new board game prototypes that will be used in youth work activities across Europe.
Who Can Apply?
Youth workers, trainers, educators, or youth leaders actively involved in non-formal education.
Individuals interested in gamification, interactive learning, and sustainability.
Applicants must be 18+ years old, fluent in English, and willing to share knowledge within their communities.
Learning Methods
Hands-on game development workshops.
Collaborative brainstorming sessions.
Testing and feedback sessions for board game prototypes.
Reflection activities to integrate learning outcomes into daily youth work practice.
Practical Information
Accommodation and meals will be covered by the hosting organization.
Travel costs will be reimbursed according to Erasmus+ distance bands (upon presenting all required documents).
The training will take place in Novaci, Romania, a scenic location near the Carpathian Mountains, providing an immersive experience in nature.
This is an excellent opportunity for youth professionals to develop new tools for sustainability education and to network with international peers.

The travel reimbursement for participants is calculated using the Erasmus+ distance calculator, based on the distance between the city of the sending organization and the venue of the activity. Participants using green travel methods (such as trains, buses, carpooling, or bicycles) are eligible for higher reimbursement rates.
The reimbursement amounts are as follows per participant:
Romania: 56 EUR (green travel) / 28 EUR (non-green travel);
Cz. Republic/Greece/Latvia/Poland/ Ukraine 417 EUR / 309 EUR;
