Going International with Young People from Diverse Cultural Backgrounds

Seminar

16-20 March 2020 | Brussels, Belgium - FL

This seminar brings together 24 youth workers to share knowledge, expertise and experience in working directly with young people from diverse cultural backgrounds and support them in using European Solidarity Corps and Erasmus+ Youth in Action as a tool.

European Solidarity Corps and Erasmus+ Youth in Action offers youngsters with diverse cultural backgrounds inspiring and empowering learning experiences within an international context. International youth projects broaden young people’s horizons. It creates the opportunity to get youngsters out of their daily context to explore new realities. They get to know Europe better, but also themselves. During this seminar we will explore how you can use European Solidarity Corps and Erasmus+ as a tool to empower youngsters with diverse cultural backgrounds.

The seminar is a co-operation between the National Agencies of Belgium-FL, Belgium-FR, the Netherlands, Germany, Portugal and Ireland. For each country we are looking for 4 youth workers.

We are looking for you if you …

  • work directly at local level (as a professional or volunteer) with young people from diverse cultural backgrounds (e.g. community based selforganisations, grass root youth organisations working with minorities).
  • want to share your experience and expertise at grassroots level with young people and eager to learn from other youth workers.
  • are interested in developing international projects for and with your young people. Previous experience with projects within the European Solidarity Corps and Erasmus+ Youth in Action is not necessary at all.

During the seminar the resources in the group will be actively used and peer learning is an essential pillar.

The programme flow will consist of:

  • teambuilding to get to know each other and build trust within the group
  • exploring each organisational context linked to national realities
  • reflecting on the added value of participating in international youth projects for youngsters with diverse cultural backgrounds
  • field visits to youth organizations to explore local reality in Brussels
  • co-facilitated open space where participants can bring in own topics for exchange and discussion
  • introduction to the European Solidarity Corps and Erasmus+ Youth in Action and support project development between participants
  • reflection to support the learning process

The programme starts on Monday 16 March 2020 from lunch on and ends on Friday 20 March 2020 after lunch.
