F.A.I.L. Better! (First Attempts in Learning)

Training Course

19-26 June 2017 | Sermugnano, Castiglione in Teverina (VT), Italy

“Be proud of your mistakes. Proud may not be exactly the right word, but respect them, treasure them, be kind to them, learn from them. And, more than that, make them. Make great mistakes, make wonderful mistakes, make glorious mistakes." (Neil Gaiman)
"F.A.I.L. Better!" is a training course which wants to explore how failure and mistakes are currently addressed in education and how we can develop a new learning approach towards them. The course wants to create a space where the participants will be free to share about mistakes, experiencing and playing with them, while reflecting on their role within the learning process. The training course will take place in Sermugnano, a small village in central Italy, from the 19th to the 26th of June 2017 (travel days included). It will involve 26 participants from 9 EU countries: Italy, Romania, Czech Republic, Spain, UK, Netherlands, Hungary, France and Greece. AIMS and OBJECTIVES: Our main aim is to focus on youth empowerment and on how we can support young people in dealing with failure, turning a moment of shame and frustration into a tool to increase their self-confidence and creativity. In particular, we would like to: • To reflect about mistakes, the role of mistakes in a learning process and our perception towards mistakes; • To create a space for personal development, by exploring personal talents and potential, through a variety of non-formal education and experiential tools based on the process rather than on the final outcome; • To experience tools and methodologies that can be utilized to enable, empower and inspire young people, showing them how to learn from mistakes in a positive and constructive way; • To create a social experience of community through sharing work and life spaces, domestic work and practical tasks related to the community life.
