Escape Climate Change

Training Course

24 May - 2 June 2024 | Busteni, Romania

Training for developing practical competencies on creating educational activities on climate change.

Over the last years, we have seen increasing mobilisation for climate issues through protests and demonstrations, especially among young people. School and climate marches illustrate the commitment of the young generation for what is one of the greatest challenges humanity has ever faced.

Increased climate awareness and political engagement among young Europeans is confirmed by Eurobarometer surveys, which also reveal that students “believe that climate change, the environment and green behaviour should receive more attention in schools”. Whilst climate change is slowly making its way into European school curricula, this has not happened everywhere or to the same extent. Climate change is a very complex subject, which also needs to be related in a concrete political context with the aim of involving students and young people as active agents of social transformation. This means we need new forms of learning that are adapted to dealing with such complex issues.

The main goal of the “Escape Climate Change” training is to raise awareness and encourage climate action among young people through the development of an innovative educational initiative based on an escape game.

More specific objectives of the training are:

  • To develop practical competencies on creating educational activities on climate change among 26 Youth Workers.
  • To co-create an innovative game-based learning approach through an escape game that can be adapted and implemented at local level across Europe
  • To raise awareness on climate change related issues among young people across Europe through the implementation of an escape game on climate at local levels.

The training course will be focused on developing specific multiplying competencies and it will make use of the experiential learning and non-formal education in general - it will have a strong practical approach and will count on participants sharing information & practices.

The learning process will be guided and facilitated by an experienced A.R.T. Fusion team:

Alex Tomescu - trainer with over 10 years of experience in facilitating activities and trainings based on non-formal educational methods with a variety of groups on topics including but not limited to climate change, global education and environment sustainability

Andreea Georgiana Oglagea - project coordinator and trainer with extensive experience in developing and implementing experiential learning activities at national and international level.

Do you want to be one of the learners on this exciting journey?

This is what we are looking for:

  • Members or close collaborators of an active Youth Organization (staff or active member, paid or not). The organisation should have a valid OID number (we will sign partnership agreements with the organisation of selected participants).
  • Enthusiastic youth workers, environmental activists, teachers or anyone else involved in climate education who are motivated to be active in the topics addressed by the project.
  • High personal motivation/passion for the cause of the project: climate change, climate action, escape games.
