Seminar
23-30 September 2021 | Yerevan, Armenia
The traditional and not traditional theatre (immersive theatre or interactive theatre) is being used extensively in non-formal education for the promotion of human rights. Human rights practitioners prove that theatre is used as a powerful tool in human rights work and theatre exercises and tools have been particularly useful for groups and communities that are looking to solve their problems. Yet, despite this, one of the biggest "minority" groups of our world, people with special needs are limited in their possibilities to use this powerful tool.
The idea of the project is to provide a space for youth workers to experience, exchange and develop new methodologies for implementing activities in the local reality for the inclusion of people with special needs by using theatre and performance arts. We have realized that even those who involve young people with special needs in their training courses or local activities never asked themselves such questions: Can blind and partially sighted people create experiences through theatre and performance arts? How inclusive can we be in our creativity? Creative activities and self-expression can so often seem off-limits to many people – and this includes the world of theatre equally.
OBJECTIVES OF THE PROJECT
1. To introduce participants and make them experience theatre methods (traditional and not traditional) as a tool for working with youth on the topics of inclusion and human rights.
2. To develop new methods for communication and inclusion for people with special needs by carrying out a training course for youth workers on social theatre.
3. To put the new methods into practice.
4. To exchange different experiences from the field of theatre and the various ways in which different organizations use theatre as a tool for inclusion through an evaluation meeting.
5. To share the impact of the previous training activity and build a platform of partners for new projects related to theatre for inclusion.
6. To create a booklet of recommendations on inclusiveness in theatre and performance arts.
The project is organized for youth leaders and youth workers working in the involved partner countries and are:
