Report of the Inclusion Staff Training

Aims were

  • to define more clearly tasks and functions of inclusion officers
  • to establish common approaches to inclusion topics (in all actions) on European level
  • to explore and comprehend the priority of 'inclusion' in the new Youth in Action programme
  • to practice and stimulate strategic thinking, more in specific on inclusion
  • to have input from NA's on their working reality concerning their inclusion work
  • to exchange experience
  • to share good practices & failures and learn from it
  • to stimulate cooperation between National Agencies in their inclusion work

Target Group

There were places available for 30 National Agency Staff members with the following profile:

  • preferably inclusion officers (but also colleagues, e.g. other project officers or staff members) of National Agencies who are directly responsible for inclusion work in your National Agency at the present and in the future
  • National Agencies willing to participate and share their expertise with other colleagues
  • Heads of National Agencies who wishes to specialize themselves into this topic are second priority participants

The Trainer

The trainer was Kathy Schroeder, a well known international trainer on inclusion issues and familiar with the working realities of National Agencies.

During the SALTO Inclusion Forum in Antwerp 2006 she ran the workshop on 'how to develop an inclusion strategy' and she was responsible for the Round Table Meeting on Inclusion (March 2007). See more on http://www.salto-youth.net/inclusionroundtable/

  • To investigate and plan the steps to implement the European Inclusion Strategy into your national context
  • tasks and responsabilities of an inclusion officer (currently, preferably) or project officer with inclusion in his/her task set
  • understanding inclusion: reflection on inclusion and more in specific the difference between accessibility and inclusion
  • overview of priority target groups in NA's and how to work with/towards them
  • working on synergies between NA's with the same target group aiming to end the training with concrete action plans or cooperation between national agencies
  • training on strategic thinking and more in specific on how to develop a long term inclusion strategy
