After consultations with National Agencies, the European Commission and Inclusion Workers SALTO decided to organise two training courses on Inclusion through Sports, in line with the European Year of Education through Sports. Sport can be a powerfull tool in the work with young people with fewer opportunities.
The topic of the course is part of SALTO's ongoing efforts to cover a wide variety of inclusion focuses by 2006 (YOUTH programme actions, target groups or methodologies). More about Inclusion Courses.
50 participants (and 1 personal assistant) took part in the succesful course in Deinze (Belgium). The documentation of the course was done directly online in the Toolbox for Training, where participants and other interested people could find all methods, background documents and outcomes of the TC Inclusion through Sports shortly after the course. The toolbox aims to gather training tools in a cumulative way.
At the annual Training and Cooperation Plan meeting with the National Agencies in Bonn 2003, it became clear that there was a need for practical publications which could inspire and help youth workers in setting up inclusion projects. Therefore, the SALTO Inclusion Resource Centre started to work on several publications which should see the light over 2004-2006.
Besides these new publications, the SALTO Inclusion Resource Centre is also going to restructure the previous Inclusion course reports to make them (even) more userfriendly.
In a constant efforts to make inclusion work easier, the SALTO Inclusion Resource Centre is developing its website into a Virtual Platform for Inclusion. The number of Inclusion tools (training courses, links, exercises, simulations, powerpoint presentations, background documents,...) and other resources online in the Toolbox for Training, Link List and European Training Calendar are growing constantly. The SALTO Inclusion Newsletter is an increasingly popular tool to spread information on these new resources. Find some examples online.
The SALTO Inclusion Resource Centre supported the National Agencies in a variety of ways in their Inclusion Strategy. Besides developing inclusion courses, SALTO also assisted the National Agencies in finding inclusion trainers for their own activities, offered course concepts and disseminated the outcomes of their inclusion activities.
The SALTO Inclusion Resource Centre also assisted the European Commission in the preparation, facilitation and reporting of the Working Group on Inclusion which developed suggestions to improve the inclusion of young people with fewer opportunities in the YOUTH Programme (download report).
The SALTO Inclusion Resource Centre continued to coordinate the development of TOY, which reached a record number of trainers and trainer searches. More and more trainers on Inclusion are available in TOY.
The following downloads are available:
A hands-on manual for (beginning) youth workers planning to set up an international activity with young people with fewer opportunities. With lots of concrete examples, exercises and tips to make your project perfect.
A practical publication for youth workers working with young people from socio-economically disadvantaged backgrounds, about how Short Term EVS can be used to benefit these young people. Based on SALTO TC on Inclusion & EVS 2001.
This offical report contains the conclusions of the Inclusion Working Group meeting held in June 2004. It will be submitted for approvel to the Programming Committee in Autumn 2004.
