Building on the first edition of Bridges for Training (Brugge 2001), the SALTO Inclusion Resource Centre in Belgium, Flanders organised Bridges for Recognition, a European Event to promote the recognition of youth work across Europe. It aimed...

• to stimulate the recognition of skills and learning by young people through participation in youth work activities, and...
• to enhance the social recognition of youth work in society (by schools, employers), by...
• raising the visibility of youth work and its recognition within and outside the youth sector

Target Group

SALTO would like to bring together people from a variety of areas and backgrounds who could influence the process of recognition of young peoples' skills gained through youth work. More specifically we would like to invite:

• youth workers, youth organisations and trainers who provide non-formal learning opportunities
• YOUTH National Agencies, EuroMed National Coordinators and SALTO coordinators who run and support one of the biggest European non-formal learning programmes for Youth
• Experts, Guests and Policy Makers related to the recognition of skills and competences acquired trough youth work and projects (representatives from formal & vocational education sector, social partners from the labour market, representatives of ministries and institutions)

Programme & Methodology

SALTO Belgium-Flanders, in cooperation with the Bridges Steering Group (read more about the Bridges Partners >>), is working on a programme which allows for quality interaction between different target groups on the issues of recognition of skills gained in youth work. The programme would address the following:

• Introductions: Situating 'Bridges for Recognition' and the importance of youth work in providing non-formal learning opportunities to young people
• Clarifications: Shedding light on different concepts and approaches to recognition, unrafling the terminology used
• Illustrations: Presenting some examples of recognition and feedback on them from different perspectives
• 'Hot Issues': Tackling some challenges and controversies regarding recognition of youth work
• Future Options & Perspectives: How can the conclusions from the discussions be complimentary or integrated into existing tools and developments.
  
• Bridges Fair: Participants will have the space to present youth related tools, programmes, events, organisations,...
